MWLC Supports National Obesity Awareness Initiative
Physician-Supervised Weight Loss Company Supports the Obesity Action Coalition's National Obesity Awareness Initiative, “Your Weight Matters”.
While thousands pledge to discuss weight with their physicians, most Americans are still unaware they are overweight or at risk for weight-related diseases.
March 31, 2010 – TAMPA, Fla. – More than two-thirds of American adults are either overweight or obese and most do not realize they may be at risk of developing other weight-related health conditions, according to Tampa-based Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), a national, non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for patients affected by obesity.
To increase obesity education, the OAC developed a national public information initiative, “Your Weight Matters” (www.yourweightmatters.org), to encourage Americans to talk with a healthcare professional about their weight. Medi-Weightloss Clinics® is a partner with OAC and supports its “Your Weight Matters” campaign by encouraging patients to spread the word to family members and friends who might be overweight or obese.
Participants in the web-based campaign can use tools on the website to analyze their own weight and talk with their doctors about it. Participants are provided with an e-toolkit to help them gather the right kind of information to bring when talking to their doctors, including a food log, exercise tips, helpful resources, and much more.
“Thousands of Americans have already registered to take the challenge, but there is still much work to be done,” said James Zervios, Director of Communications at OAC. “Since Medi-Weightloss Clinics® has such a wide reach across the country, it is making a significant impact on our initiative by spreading the word about ‘Your Weight Matters.’” http://www.yourweightmatters.org/ http://www.obesityaction.org
“While Medi-Weightloss Clinics® patients are aware their weight matters, we often find they encourage their friends, spouses and other relatives to take the ‘Your Weight Matters’ campaign challenge – a pledge to speak with their healthcare providers about their weight,” said Macklin Guzman, MPH, Director of Research & Development at Medi-Weightloss Clinics®. “Medi-Weightloss Clinics® has supported the Obesity Action Coalition since its inception and we are excited to continue our relationship as we work together to fight the obesity crisis in America.”
