“Slow progress is STILL progress.”
Lynda lost 42 pounds!
Lynda's Weight Loss Story
I first came to the office of Dr. Zbella, my † physician in the year 2000 on the recommendation of my OB/GYN to address fertility issues. In 2004, Dr. Zbella performed IVF on me resulting in a very successful, full-term pregnancy and birth of my twin son and daughter in January of 2005. I gained the normal 25 pounds over the course of the pregnancy and lost about two-thirds of it after the birth. Over the next three years, I was so busy with the twins that not only did I gain back the weight I lost, but I gained much more. My biggest problem was that I was so focused on my babies that I failed to eat right or consistently. For instance, I would go without eating all day, eat a dinner portion big enough to feed 3 people, and then graze on pretzels, nuts, or sweetened rice cakes until I went to bed at night.
Even though the food I would eat was healthy, I was eating way too much at one meal as well as at night and not enough during the day. The only exercise I got was caring for my twins. As they began to get older and were ready to go to preschool, they didn't need my undivided attention anymore. I was no longer sleep deprived, but I was still as tired as ever and my blouse size had increased to triple X. I hated looking in the mirror because I thought I looked so old.
I knew I had to do something
One day while shopping, I got a compliment from a stranger about how beautiful my grandchildren are. I finally accepted that the reason I was so tired and looked so old (at that time I was only 48) was because I was overweight and had poor eating habits. I decided, however, that at my age it would be smarter to try a medically supervised weight loss program than to go on a fad diet or Jenny Craig or something like that. I know that they work, but I need to learn how to eat not just what to eat. I needed to do it in a healthy way so I could keep the weight off. My husband was also overweight and feeling as tired and old as I was.
When I learned that Dr. Zbella was offering the Medi-Weightloss Clinics® Program, I was glad that I could undertake a regimen with a provider I was familiar with, and I contacted the office. My husband and I started the Medi-Weightloss Clinics® Program on October 31, 2008. My goal was to reach my pre-pregnancy weight by Christmas. I began at 187 pounds and on Christmas Eve I weighed exactly 160 pounds! I had successfully lost all of my baby weight and set a new goal of 140 pounds to be reached by summer of 2009. The entire staff was supportive and encouraging and both my husband and I looked forward to our weekly visits. Even if we only lost a pound on a given week, we learned and accepted that slow progress is still progress. I have more energy than I've had in years. I can clean my house and play with my children and I no longer dread looking on the mirror.
